The old Notre-Dame Hospital building will have a new vocation soon.
Believe it or not, a local hospital food recipe is slated to be the star of the night when Notre-Dame Hospital closes down to relocate. The hospital, located just across the street from Parc La Fontaine, was once known not only as a hospital, but also for its delicious home-style spaghetti sauce (of all things!), Radio-Canada reports.
Current and former employees remember the sauce as homey and more “comforting” than any other hospital food.
The recipe was progressively modified over the years (namely to reduce its high sodium content), but now, ahead of the closing evening of the hospital, employees are trying to bring back the original for one last hurrah!
This hand-written recipe was found by employees while searching the hospital’s archives. Former employee René Brochu also confirmed that this is the recipe they were looking for; he wrote it in the 80s, while working in the hospital’s kitchen.
